The boring life of Jerod Poore, Crazymeds' Chief Citizen Medical Expert.

1&1 Internet - Liars. Thieves. Bigots. And/or Merely Incompetent

1&1 Internet Inc., a.k.a. 1and1.com, 1&1.co.uk, 1&1 Webhosting, 1&1 Internet Ltd, etc. ranks pretty high in domain hosts people love to hate. I've got extra special reasons to hate them and for people to avoid them. I've been actively trying to get crazymeds.org redeemed from 1&1.com since 27 October. This is due to 1&1 Webhosting's incompetent billing department sending the 60-day the domain registration expiration notice to the long-dead account jerod23@well.com. In spite of being lied to by someone in said incompetent billing department back in March or April of 2005 that the billing address to be used from that point forward was to be the primary address at crazymeds.org.

That certainly didn't happen, as when the credit card I used to register crazymeds.COM (subsequently squatted, because 1&1 Internet Inc.'s domain registration software is so fucked up they often can't get it right), later crazymeds.ORG expired. Did the billing department notify me of that? How could they? They were still sending e-mail to jerod23@well.com! What did they do when they got a bounce message? Bother to do a whois? Oh that would be way too much work!

So I owed them money, and that was the problem we had back in August. At that point I didn't care about paying $40 for a charge stemming from something that was there fault. A problem that coincided with the pussies at Limp Dick, er Hard Hat Hosting getting their panties in a twist about my linking to this blog when I was defending myself against libel. That they construed as libel and kicked me off with little notice. Just in time for the desipramine I was taking to impact the shit in me to tear my colon.

So for everyone out there, you were right, I was literally full of shit. And hospitalized with internal bleeding. Hence a longer delay than needed to get Crazy Meds back up.

I have an e-mail I'll be publishing as a response to this posting where it is written confirming what I was told on the phone, that my e-mail address would be changed.

Lied to yet again by 1&1 Internet Ltd. Because All this happened before the 60 notice, so nothing every went to crazymeds.org, it all kept being sent to the long-defunct address of jerod23@well.com

Once Crazy Meds was gone I was hit with ultradian rapid cycling. Those of you who know about it can understand why I was disabled. Those of you who don't: I was too fucking crazy to do anything.

Regardless, on 30 October I asked the key questions regarding what I needed to do to redeem the site.

I didn't get an answer until a few days ago. The morons behind the address transfer@
1&1.co.uk / working at the Slough office of 1&1 Internet Ltd kept up with their circular logic of if Situation D then Situation A had to have happened. If Situation A happened than that was because of Situation B. Situation B occurs only with Situation C, which usually doesn't happen but can, and Situation C always precludes Situation D. And whenever you have Situation C, that was because Situation A happened.

Work it out with a pencil.

Ultimately I needed a form to change my billing address. Some form that no one ever told me about.

Then there's the key piece of information on how to redeem crazymeds.org: fill out another form. I was told about that back on 30 October and I had questions.

Questions I kept asking.

Questions that weren't answered until 14 November.

I had to register another domain with those fucktards just to get crazymeds.org back.

Fine. I did.

What to you know? No confirmation e-mail. Nothing. No response from their complaints department (ever), no response from the chowderheads at
transfer@1&1.co.uk or billing@1and1.com about why there is no knew domain just so I can redeem crazymeds.org?

This is going beyond incompetence.

So while incompetence, lying and covering their asses regarding their fuck-ups and lies still is about 80% of my probability for guessing as to why this has happened to me, there are still to other possibilities, each with 10% probability assigned to them.

1) 1&1.com / 1 and 1 Internet Inc. are thieves. Crazy Meds was grossing around US$60,000 a year with my shitty design. With 11,000 links to the site and a spiffy makeover, who knows what sort of revenue they could get.

2) 1&1.co.uk /
1&1 Internet Ltd / Schlund + Partner AG are bigots. They don't want anyone like me (bipolar, epileptic, autistic) earning a living helping people like you. There is a recent history in Germany of treating people like me as sub-human. The concentration camp model began in 1934, complete with small-scale mass executions. By 1940 the classic mass murder of the mentally interesting began, and around 200,000 of us were rounded up and cremated by the war's end. We were the first to be rounded up, but it wasn't until 2002 the the US Holocaust Memorial deigned to mention that we lead the way on the march to death.

And it's not as if that sort of stuff doesn't happen any more. The Serbian Government locks up and more or less starves us to death.
Or just denies treatment. Whichever is easier.

I'm used to being treated as less than human. It's why I spent thirty years doing my best to pass as one. That's getting more and more difficult these days, so it looks as if I'm fair game now by the likes of bigots such as these. Given that I live on another continent, I guess ruining my livelihood is the best that 1 & 1 Internet Ltd. can do to me.

I'll let you make up your own mind about why 1&1.com is making my life hell and ruining my business. At this point they seem to be intentionally running down the clock so the redemption period ends and they get to keep the domain. So they could be the most incompetent domain registrars on the planet, or it really is one or both of thieves and/or bigots.

to get a better idea of what 1&1 Internet is like, read up on some other people's experiences:

Jeff Croft wrote about his experiences with their fucked up "service" in 1&1 Internet is the devil.
I had problems similar to Jeff's back when I was using 1&1 Webhosting as a shared server domain host.

Chris Beach had problems on a larger scale and had the privilege of being charged money for complaining. Read about it in Avoid 1&1 Internet.

As I wrote I have e-mail. This time I have proof of their incompetence, ass-covering and circular logic. I need Scott Adams to make it funny, because it's right out of Dilbert. Given that the UK offices of
1&1.co.uk / 1&1 Internet Ltd are based in Slough, Ricky Gervais might be more appropriate. E-mails will be posted as responses, as this initial post has gone on long enough. Plus I'm into day three of an aura, so I'm not up to sitting in front of the desktop that has my POP e-mail.

What I need to know:
1) do you want outside people to contact 1&1 and lean on them*? Or will that do more harm than good?

2) what's the deadline for the form / process to reclaim the site?

*"Lean on them" being defined as cogent, clear, non-abusive requests to clear up the situation.

Silver

ps: these guys don't sound competent enough to engage in conspiracy.

Unknown said...

Silver,

The deadline is 19 November. Maybe 18, as they always change the rules.

Let them have it. At this point I have nothing to lose.

The are already selling the property as if they own it, touting all the traffic and links to crazymeds.org. Just click on the link to analyze the domain crazymeds.org and you'll get to see some spiffy numbers.

And they claim to represent the owner. After they stole it by lying to be as to where billing information was to be sent. Then they lied to be about allowing me to register a new domain just so I could have it back.

1and1 Internet Inc., 1&1.com is deliberately stealing my domain.

What is the other explanation for dragging out the process to I can't meet the 18 or 19 November deadline (I'd expect them to change it on me).

They are thieves. Bigoted thieves in all likelihood. The would rather see someone like me strapped to a bed in a Serbian institution.

Glad you've managed to hold together as much as you have,

If .org gets stolen, maybe we can post "protests" on the site of whomever tries to use it advising people to stay away and to go to your site.

Don't know if it will help, or just show up as "hits"!

Thanks for everything you've done.

Jerod,
I know of more than a few folks who would do whatever we can to help you fight these imbeciles. Your site has been a wealth of information and so helpful to those of us involved in any way with psychotropic meds, you and your site are the real deal. keep up the fight, we are behind you,
CK

crazymeds.org is just a parked domain. Protesting on the site is pointless.

I've updated the entry for crazymeds.org on aboutus.org
If you go down to the related domains section at the bottom you'll find links to all sorts of people who not only have had problems with 1&1, but who have had their domains stolen and handed over to Sedo.

So, CK, I can use whatever help I can get. The deadline is either the 18th or 19th. Tomorrow (a Sunday) or Monday. I doubt if I'll get anywhere with them. They're determined to steal the domain. If they do, then it's all a matter of changing as many links and references from .org to crazymeds.us

Now we come to some documentary evidence of 1 & 1 Internet's incompetence and/or the beginning of their plot to steal crazymeds.org from me.

As I wrote before, I was lied to in March or April of 2005 about the billing address for Crazy Meds being changed.

Remember when I had the problem of the site not coming back up in August after the pussies at Limp Dick Hosting kicked me off of their domain hosting? Here's the reason why:

I have sent a copy of this e-mail to them numerous times, and they tell me that it doesn't apply because either "associated with your domain" doesn't included the billing address, or I still needed to fill out a form that I was never, ever told about.

As part of the process I send this e-mail:

I also told the people on the phone to use the crazymeds.org e-mail address and to use the credit card number I gave them for future domain registration charges if I couldn't get the registration transfered in time.

I was told that would happen.

Liars.

And, once again, on August 10th Ms. Logenberger lies to me about changing the address:

Damn, the related domains thing in aboutus.org is hosed. It expects other articles.

In any event, here is an article on SEDO's fraudulently inflating the value of a domain. Just as they are currently doing with crazymeds.org

The name alone means nothing. Without the content crazymeds.org has little value. Just ask the losers who stole crazymeds.com out from under me when 1and1 fucked up my registration of that domain back in October of 2003.

Even people who park domain names think SEDO are scammers. The chatter on various fora isn't as universally hateful regarding SEDO as it is regarding 1and1.com, but someone has a sedofraud blogspot.

Hell, just search through Google linking 1and1, Sedo and various terms like "fraud", "abuse" or whatever else you can think of and you'll find plenty of people who've run into the same trouble I have.

Dymphna said...

Yes, about.com is hosed. I did, however, send a note to their bipolar forum 'leaders' asking them to include the new address (since the old one is all over their forum).

I sent notes to a few other places that routinely pop up first on the google search of CM as well. The notes referenced your blog URL for backstory.

It will all work out.

dymphna,

The link I posted was to aboutus.org, which is a wiki site where you describe your website.

However I super-appreciate your contacting the about.com people. There are a bazillion links there.

Spread the word everyone. Doing a search on "crazymeds.org" with the quotes, will find the sites. If you know anyone at a particular site, contact the person to have them change the link if possible.

The redemption period ends tomorrow. After jumping through all the hoops 1and1.com keeps adding there's no way I can get the .org back. They stolen my livelihood and I'll have to go back on SSDI, with an income of less than half of what I was making with Crazy Meds.

Given the weirdness of SSDI work rules, I may have to shut down the site entirely if I can't ramp it back up quickly enough, or just sell it.

All of that, just so SEDO can make $25,000. Just so Andreas Gauger, the CEO of Schlund + Partners AG (the owners of 1&1 Internet and SEDO), can buy another fancy camera.

Oh yeah, about message boards - one thing that would be a big help is to just go back and delete old posts with actual links to crazymeds.org

The fewer links the better.

A message with a link to crazymeds.us explaining the stolen domain would take care of it. Copy any important content into the new post if there is any.

I'm not asking people to work themselves to death doing this, it's just if they notice any old posts of theirs that they can delete to just do so.

And there are all those social bookmarking sites. They need to be changed or deleted. I don't know how they work.

I need to update the blog section on crazymeds.us

Anonymous said...

You have your fax confirmation sheet that shows that you submitted the domain redemption form within the 30 day window, right?

If you've jumped through all the necessary hoops, and you have datestamped confirmation... bearing in mind that even if their customer service department isn't open on weekends, their fax lines are... and they STILL hold the domain, then it might be time to call the PA AG's office.

As to the rebuilding, I know rankings take forever. But I see that crazymeds.us is moving up in my searches. The DNS address shows up earlier.

When updating the Blog section, you might also want to update "What's New." I know you're really busy, but just putting a link to the Blog section in What's New would help.

Durr... I *knew* that (even clicked the link).

Sorry, got that simultaneous seizure thing going again...

At least the mistake went somewhere useful. I'll keep hunting.

Hi Jerod,

I just wanted to say that I wish you every success in getting CrazyMeds site up and running again.
I am a big fan of the site and as someone on the autistic spectrum with learning difficulties, depression OCD and anxiety disorder, I have found it invaluable in understanding what the various medications I have been prescribed are doing to my body.

It would be fantastic if you could get it up and running again.

Good luck.

Anonymous wrote,

No, I don't. The fax I mentioned previously was for the late fee due to an expired credit card because the lying dickweeds in their billing department kept sending notices to jerod23@well.com, in spite of my changing the address to use via 1and1.com's software and being told by a lying scumfuck in 1and1.com's billing department in April 2005 that they will send all further correspondence to jerod23@crazymeds.org!

Hey, look, it's 19 October 2007 and I haven't received a reply from that lying bitch Joy Longenberger. You know, the one who told me in that e-mail of 10 August that she herself changed the e-mail address to use. She asked about the new domain I created so I'd get an account. She also refused to answer the questions I had regarding the redemption form that I asked on 30 October. Answers I didn't get until 14 November, in spite of my continually asking them.

All the e-mails regarding the unanswered questions of the redemption form will follow.

As the theft of crazymeds.org is complete, I've asked Invision to change the forum to work under crazymeds.us - so I hope to have the forum up in a couple of days.

Random people contacting 1&1 won't do any good, you need legal at this point. Several months of down time, and loss of site revenue... Lost money which equals damages and stuff I'd think. You should be able to sue them for that. And somebody out there is probably willing to do it for you, and with the $$$ you're talking about, you don't want to do it yourself.

Threat of legal action by an actual lawyer might be enough.

Today my account was locked saying I hadnt paid my bill since november,
granted my card did decline in november but I had updated my billing details

My server went offline and i called the billing department who said I would need to speak
to the debt collections agency which I wasnt happy with, i asked for a supervisor which they again said was not aloud and I would have to write in.

So i threatened all sorts of action and they put me through to Mrs Khan in there legal department
I told her about my issues, and she tried to fob me off saying that I would need to deal with the debt
collections agency, which again i wasnt happy with, so i told her i was willing to pay and would only pay 1and1.

She told me this was impossible, so I told her that again this was a load of rubbish that and they had the capabilities
to take payment if she would take the initiative to try and fix this problem, she told me she would call me back in 30mins

Half hour later she calls me back and takes my payment (wait i thought this was impossible?!) and gives me 3 free months hosting on all my servers.

The good thing was... she called me forgetting to withold her direct line... +441753490524

I hope this helps anyone else who has problems with 1and1 at the moment.

You should report what has happened to The Consumerist. They have readers everywhere and once a company has been publicly humiliated for their bad behavior, they normally make some form of amends. I'm sorry I didn't know this had happened sooner.

I came to crazymeds 2-3 years ago for a bit. It was really informative. This is the first I've heard about this; my jaw actually dropped when I read about the way those fools treated you. That's absolutely horrendous.

You know how they say in Hollywood that any press is good press whether it be positive or negative? Well, this aint Hollywood baby. Get as much negative press as you can on the fraudulent activities of these two companies. You've got word of mouth covered, now get the press. Consumerism was already mentioned, I'm sure there are others who would publish or tell your story especially with the evidence you have.

Well jay,

"This is one of 1and1 technical representative that was mentioned in the blog. I just dont know if the owner of this blog is technically educated. since he dont know the process and the protocols of a domain."

Your English skills demonstrate some of the problems I was having.

The problem was not one of my being "technically educated," the problem was dealing with the willful ignorance of 1&1's bureaucracy.

Such as my receiving an e-mail from 1&1's billing department just a few weeks ago informing me that the crazymeds.org domain was owned by someone else, so they couldn't do anything to help me.

Gee, morons, the reason I wrote was so I could get my domain back because the expiration notice, and all other billing notices, were being sent to an e-mail address that was no longer valid. An address I was told several times was no longer going to be used. So I know that you people are liars.

And after I set up a new account and registered a new domain withing the 30 day period nothing happened! So I couldn't get my old domain back!

So exactly what is the problem with you people?

1) Stupidity
2) Bigotry
3) You're thieves
4) All of the above

I'm an investigative journalist, and am also a very disgruntled customer of 1 & 1. Here is what you need to do first:
1.) File a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office by calling Ms. Madelaine Dakour at (215)560-6790, and www.pa.gov
2.) Next, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org
3.) Their contract is in violation of the Federal Arbitration Act by having clauses considered "unconscionable", and trying to prohibit class-action lawsuits and pushing mandatory arbitration. Courts are wising up, and realizing that they are violating many rules, and are overturning and disallowing the contract. Check your states legislative code, but the FAA may have the final say.
4.) Depending on your issues with 1 & 1, you may be able to claim fraudulent advertising. If you can prove lots of downtime, then their continued claim of 99% uptime is false and misleading.
5.) File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov. They have received tons about this company, and are looking into their practices.
6.) Keep meticulous records, and keep me posted. I have written more than 30 articles and interviewed hundreds of frustrated customers. More than 60 TV and radio stations are working independently and with us on stories, so make sure and contact your local stations. The big four are www.cbs.com, www.abc.com, www.nbc.com, and www.foxnews.com
Don't give up! We can work together and get this awful company to do the right thing.
